Biography:

That's the tagline of the new martial arts film from Thailand, Ong-Bak, and now 27 year-old Tony Jaa is going to prove it.
With cords wrapped around his hands and wrists, and ropes around his arms and forehead, Jaa does a somersault and accurately kicks a padded target a dozen feet off the ground. The press watches as Jaa lines up his crew—five assistants in T-shirts bearing the words “Muay Thai Stunt.” Jaa leaps through the air, then crowd-walks over all five on a dead run, stepping on their shoulders. Jaa then demonstrates his fighting skills, hitting and throwing his assistants.
Jaa has demonstrated the point, which is that he has the skills to do everything you see in Ong-Bak, the first film to feature him as an actor and not a stunt double. What's special about Jaa, compared to bigger name stars, is his jaw-dropping acrobatic ability. Wires seem almost superfluous when it comes to Jaa. He may not be able to stand on leaves or run on water, but when he leaps over a car in a single bound, he's really doing it.
It takes a lot of work to get to this point. Tony Jaa, born Panon Yee-rum in the province of Surin (about 200 kilometers from Bangkok), has been fixated on martial arts since childhood. At fifteen, he began to work for Thai action star/fight choreographer Phanna Rithikrai, training in kung fu and stunt work while simultaneously working on movie sets as a waterboy, cook, and general crewmember. Jaa also studied taekwondo, swordplay, and gymnastics. His first real opportunity came when he appeared as a stunt double for Robin Shou in Mortal Kombat 2. He also stunt doubled Thai star James Ruengsak and worked on the Thai TV series In See Dang.
Finally Jaa took up Muay Thai, the ancient discipline of his land, and mastered it under the guidance of his mentor. Together they developed the idea for Ong-Bak and took it Thai director/producer Prachya Pinkaew, who agreed to helm the project.
After the press demonstration, Jaa settles down to an interview with AboutFilm. Out of traditional garb and in plain sweat clothes, you'd never guess that the soft-spoken, easy-going Jaa could well be one of the most skilled martial artists in the world. Now that Ong-Bak has opened on 200 screens in the United States, American audiences have the opportunity to decide for themselves what they think, and whether Jaa deserves to be the next Jackie Chan or Jet Li.

Matt Damon

Profile:

Name: Matt Damon
Born: 8 October 1970 (Age: 40)
Where: Boston, Massachusetts, USA
Height: 5' 10"
Awards: Won 1 Oscar, 1 Golden Globe

Biography:

Damon himself, though, might view his own career path a little differently. Whereas Affleck's parents had connections in the Biz, setting him up with onscreen work before he was 10, Damon had to work that little bit harder. Whereas, before Good Will Hunting, Affleck had appeared only in minor roles and dodgy TV movies, Damon had delivered several excellent performances in several excellent films - each of which had gone painfully unnoticed. Unlike Affleck, Damon had come within inches of fame and fortune. Indeed, he may well have made it even without Good Will Hunting - after all, he had just won the lead in a Francis Ford Coppola adaptation of a John Grisham novel. So Damon's success should, perhaps, not be considered such a shock. Furthermore, he'd also go on to prove himself in such dramas as Syriana and The Departed, action hits like the Bourne trilogy, plus the Ocean movies, and receive a further Oscar nomination for his work as a South African rugby star in Invictus. He clearly wasn't just some cinematic interloper who'd lucked out. He was talented, dedicated and immensely hard-working.
He was born Matthew Paige Damon on October 8th, 1970, in the Cambridge area of Boston, Massachusetts. His father, Kent, was an investment banker and tax preparer, while his mother, Nancy Carlsson-Paige (hence the middle name) was Professor of Education at Lesley College, specialising in early education. Matt has one brother, Kyle, three years his senior and now a sculptor.
For the first two years of his life, Matt lived in the seriously expensive Newton district of Boston. When he was 2, though, his parents divorced and he moved, with Nancy, to nearby Cambridge. This area, where Harvard is situated, was also well-to-do, but not QUITE as rich as Newton. Nancy's plan was for Matt and Kyle to be well-provided-for, but not shut away from the real world. Thus one neighbour was Howard Zinn, author of A People's History Of The United States, while opposite Chez Matt was a halfway house.
Matt was a happy, if shy child. With his studies overseen by his mother (later described by Affleck as "an activist lefty"), he was a Straight-A man throughout his education. His father was heavily involved too, particularly in steeping the boy in baseball history.

Jamie Bell

Profile:

Full Name:Jamie Bell
Birthdate:March 14, 1986
Birth Place:Billingham, Stockton on Tees, England
Height:5'8
Career Start:Close & True (TV 2000)

Biography:
A native of Billingham, England, Jamie Bell is an example of endurance and dedication paying off if there ever was one. Though the aspiring young dancer was the object of frequent teasing by school classmates (who dubbed him "Poof" and "Ballerina Boy," among other unsavory monikers), he persevered and ultimately landed the lead in the affecting 2000 drama Billy_Elliot. Bell's family has a rich history in the world of dance that dates back to his grandmother. Though at first shy about his ambitions, the boy quietly imitated the moves of his older sister as she practiced in the studio; by the time he was six, others began to recognize his natural talent and encouraged him to practice, though Bell tried to keep his extracurricular activities a secret from his classmates. He later enrolled in the Stagecoach Theater School in hopes of refining his acting skills. Practice in both arenas ultimately paid off when Bell was selected from more than 2,000 young hopefuls to fill the toeshoes of the titular character in Stephen_Daldry's Billy_Elliot. During the production of the film, the fresh-faced actor and veteran director developed a warm, father/son-like bond that helped Bell gain the confidence he needed to fully explore his talent. An unexpected hit that was embraced by critics and audiences around the world, Billy_Elliot earned many prestigious nominations and awards, including BAFTAs for Best British Film and Best Actor for its young star, who was also named Best Newcomer at The British Independent Film Awards. Though he subsequently hung up his ballet shoes in favor of more acting roles, Bell continued to impress in such features as the horror-flavored war film Deathwatch and the Charles_Dickens adaptation Nicholas_Nickleby (both 2002). The following year, the busy young actor took the lead in no less than three films: Dear Wendy, Undertow and Who Goes There? -- all scheduled for release in 2004. Jason Buchanan, Rovi.
