Jim Carrey was born on Jan. 17, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario. He was the youngest of four children to mother, Kathleen, and father, Percy; both performers themselves. Prior to starting a family, Percy was a saxophonist with a Toronto big band and his mother had been a singer, but when the couple settled down, Percy sought financial stability by landing a job as an accountant with a large company. From a young age, it was apparent that Carrey took after his father, then the notorious comedian of the family. Around the age of seven, while trying to cheer up his sick, bedridden mother, Carrey discovered the power of pratfalls and his wacky impersonations of animals. This led to a lifelong affair with the mirror, where he would practice morphing into well-known figures like John Wayne, Sammy Davis, Jr. and Jack Nicholson, which he would unleash on his classmates at school. But as an early teen, Carrey's father was unexpectedly downsized and the class clown was forced to grow up quickly when the Carrey family accepted an offer to live onsite at a factory, in exchange for the labor of the entire family. Carrey attended high school during the day and worked eight-hour cleaning shifts every night until he could no longer keep up his grades or his energy, leading to the unfortunate choice of dropping out of high school. After a year, the family had had enough of the miserable situation and headed to the home of eldest sister Pat, where they lived in a tent on her front lawn and their VW bus in the driveway.

She was born on the 22nd of November, 1984, in New York City. Her father, of Danish extraction, was a building contractor in Manhattan, while her mother, Melanie, looked after kids Adrian, Vanessa, Scarlett and Hunter, Hunter being Scarlett's twin, younger than her by three minutes ("the most important three minutes of my life", she's said). As Hunter would grow to 6' 3", with dark eyes and hair, Scarlett would later comment that they were as much like real twins as Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito. There was also a half-brother, living with his mother in Denmark. Scarlett's name was, in a new family tradition, taken from Gone With The Wind, mother Melanie, of course, sharing the name of Scarlett O'Hara's friend and benefactor Melanie Hamilton.
The family having no theatrical background, Scarlett's entry to the industry came almost by accident. A friend of Melanie's, struck by the siblings' good looks, began referring to them as "the cute little Johansson family" and suggested they seek work in commercials. Melanie thought she'd give it a go and took the kids off to an agency for a cold reading. The audition went fairly well, the agents being quite keen on elder brother Adrian, but the other children were deemed surplus to requirements. It was about what Melanie had expected.

Billy Bob Thornton Profile
Date of birth:August 4. 1955
Place of birth:Hot Springs, Arkansas, USA
Astrology Sign:Leo
Height:6' (1.83 m)
Fathers name:Billy Ray Thornton (d. 1974)
Mothers name:Virginia Roberta
With entertainment dominated by fresh-faced puppets, it's extremely heartening to see someone break into the corridors of power when in their forties. Better still when that person's an accomplished writer, director, character actor and musician. Step forward Billy Bob Thornton, a backwoods renaissance man who's squeezed several (mostly unsuccessful) lives into one and come out on top of the Hollywood tree.
It could so easily have been very different. Whereas many of today's stars are the children of the Los Angeles glitterati, Billy Bob began life about as far from Tinseltown as an American can get. He was born on the 4th of August, 1955, at Hot Springs, Arkansas, and spent his first few years living, with up to 15 of his extended family, in his grandfather's shack in the woods around the hamlet of Alpine (population 100). Grandad was a forest ranger, and the family would eat what he shot - deer, possum an' sechlike. There was no running water or electricity, they would read by the light of coal-oil lamps. Billy Bob was a chubby baby. In fact, he later recalled "I was the fattest baby in Clark County. They put me in the paper. I was like a prize turnip". His father was Billy Ray - hot-tempered and of Irish descent - a High School history teacher and basketball coach who'd die from lung cancer when the boy was 18. His mother, Virginia Faulkner Thornton, half-Italian, half-Choctaw Indian, was a psychic and she would be the prime influence on her son. She'd also predict that he'd later work with Burt Reynolds and win an Oscar - he'd base the Cate Blanchett character in The Gift upon her.
After a few years, the family moved to Malvern (population a headspinning 9256), and here Billy Bob had greater access to his first love - music. With his younger brother, Jimmy Don (there'd be another brother, John David, born in 1969 and now a doctor), he'd devour the works of Elvis, Jim Reeves and homeboy Johnny Cash, then flipped over British invaders like The Beatles, The Kinks and The Dave Clark Five. But, though he'd later fall for witty experimentalists Captain Beefheart and Frank Zappa, his big thing was Americana, both Roots and Rock.
